» Useful Tips
Dismantle Furniture
If you have not arranged for us to do so, please be sure to dismantle self assembly furniture, take down all curtains, fixtures and fittings prior to the arrival of your moving team.
Attics and Lofts
Ensure all items that are in your loft are sorted and placed in an accessible room. Your moving team will not be permitted into your loft, unless it is well illuminated and boarded and there is a safe point of entry.
Important Documents
Place all your important documents in a folder and separate from your household goods. Plan to carry these with you when you travel.
Cookers/Washing Machines/Fridges & Freezers
These should all be disconnected, cleaned, drained and dried prior to the arrival of your moving team. To avoid damage, the drums of automatic washing machines must be secured with the proper brackets supplied by the manufacturer.
Bedding and Linen.
Please have the beds stripped in preparation for moving.
Stereo system, Video and computer equipment.
This equipment is best moved in its original packaging. The record deck and the pick up arm of your record player should be secured for transit in accordance with the manufacturers instructions before the moving team arrive.
China/Glass/ Ornaments and Books
These can be left in cupboards and shelves ready for our moving team to pack, (if this has been included in your quotation).
Contents of Garage and Sheds
These should be organised well in advance, and tools must be cleaned, tied together and any rubbish should be discarded. Flammable products cannot be moved as this will invalidate your insurance.
Long Term Storage
Extra steps need to be taken with domestic appliances, which will be stored in excess of three months. Washing machines and dishwashers must be completely drained of surplus water as damp, mildew and seizure of component parts can take place when these appliances are not used for a considerable length of time.
Personal Effects
Mark up a box with "Do not remove". Put personal effects and miscellaneous items, which you will need immediately upon arrival, in a carton and leave it as one of the final items you place in your car.
Moving Your Plants
Wrapping your plants in newspaper protects them from draughts and stops the leaves from being bruised. Once in your new home place them in a warm space and do not unwrap them until all morning activity has come to a conclusion. In summer it is advisable not to leave your plants in a hot car or in the sun.
Presence during the Removal
It is your responsibility to be present throughout the removal to ensure that nothing that should be removed is left behind, and nothing is taken away in error.
Claims
In the unlikely event of making a claim full details must be submitted in writing to MPM Removals within 7 days of the removal date.
Moving Day
- Settle the children with their carer. If they are staying with you, organise aroma with their toys and a few treats. Older children may want specific tasks, like packing their own personal box.
- The team leader will introduce himself and his crew to you. Show the team leader around your home.
- Keep the kettle boiling and the biscuits flowing so that everyone is refreshed.
- Strip the beds. Keep the linen in a box that travels with you so you can pull it out for the first night.
- Once the van is loaded, walk around the house with the team leader to ensure all items to be moved have been placed in the vehicle.
- At your new home everything is unloaded and placed in the appropriate rooms and if quoted for, unpacked and unwrapped by the moving team.
- Once you are satisfied that everything is in place, you will be asked to acknowledge this by signing the team leaders delivery sheet, writing any comments you may wish to make.
